What is backflow and how do you prevent it?

Backflow is the unwanted reversal of flow in a water distribution system. Pipeline cracks and high levels of water withdrawal are typically the causes of backflow, but if you use the proper backflow prevention devices, you will most likely stop these from happening.  Most cities work hard to stop backflow issues by ordering or requiring these backflow prevention devices on home sprinkler systems.  This is key since these devices can stop lawn fertilizers and pesticides (as well as other dangerous chemicals) from getting into your homes’ drinking water.

I don’t know about you, but I certainly don’t want my coffee having two packets of herbicide in it – I prefer Stevia.

Anyway, I have been proactively looking into getting my lawn sprinkler system inspected for backflow.  I want to maintain my personal health as well as the health of my yard. So, I have been seeking good Lubbock backflow prevention companies that also understand how to keep sprinkler systems running perfectly.  I want a company that does backflow inspection and backflow prevention and I think I found one.  I’m excited to work with Rainmaker Irrigation since they have so many good reviews.

I will hopefully report back later with what I expect to be my own glowing testimony…

Any of you readers have experience with backflow prevention?  I would love to hear about it in the comments section.

Thanks so much!
